FC Porto – Atl. Madrid

For the 6th matchday of the 2nd group of the Champions League, Porto welcomes Atlético Madrid to the Estadio do Dragao. The group is completed by Brugge and Bayer Leverkusen, the first two in the ranking continue in the 16 of the competition while the 3 continue in the Europa League.

Porto's progress in the group has been very successful, last week they beat Bruges in Belgium 4-0 and combined with Atletico's draw a few hours later against Leverkusen the Portuguese team ensured its participation in the next phase of the competition. He even has the chance to claim the first place in the group, he needs a better result than Bruges, from which he is one point behind.
In the league, however, it landed uneventfully as on Saturday it drew 1-1 at the home of Santa Clara and has fallen to 3rd place in the standings with 23 points against 31 of the leader Benfica.

After a thriller match Atlético was held to a 2-2 draw in the previous group match against Leverkusen and was eliminated from the next phase of the competition. Now with a win today they will continue in the Europa League, with a draw they want Leverkusen not to win, while if they lose they want the German team to do the same.
Saturday saw another bad result for the league, losing 3-2 away to Cádiz and saw the atmosphere getting even worse, at the end of the 12th matchday found Atlético in 3rd place with 23 points and minus 9 from the first Real.

Porto goes into the match without the stress of qualification, but wants the victory for the first place in the group. Atlético, for its part, also cannot appear indifferent as it has not formally secured the 3rd place. I expect an open game with many phases and goals, as it happens in their last matches.
