Greek sports mourn the loss of one of the top volleyball players in our country, Nikos Samaras.
Nikos Samaras passed away today at the age of 43, mourning the Greek fans.
The former ace with the amazing offensive service, who had a great career with Orestiada and the National team, where he had 263 participations, passed away today in a hospital where he was rushed to an aneurysm.
A few hours before Nikos Samaras left his last breath, around three in the afternoon he felt unwell and had a severe headache. A little later he lost consciousness while in the meantime an EKAB ambulance had been called. Recovery efforts were made immediately, but he succumbed inside the ambulance.
At the People's Hospital where he was taken, he was simply pronounced dead from a brain aneurysm.
Born in 1970 in Stuttgart, Nikos Samaras led the men's national team to its greatest success in the world, the 6th place in Cosmovoley in 1994.
With Orestiada he reached the final of the Confederation Cup in 1994, while he won a Greek cup with Iraklis in 2000.
He also played for Panathinaikos, Ethnikos Alexandroupolis, Italy (Falconara), Spain (Seville), Turkey (Fenerbahce) and Switzerland (Senua). Last year, at the age of 42, he remained at a competitive level, competing in A2 with Milonas, along with two other great veterans, Mario Giourdas and Thanasis Panousos.
