Tribute No 1 - Cohen Brothers

I thought to start a series of tributes, primarily to directors and actors, mentioning their filmography and an informal vote we can do here at the forum. Those of course who have seen the movie and want to write two things and rate it, the themes are open, just maybe to make it look good to make some modifications.
Because I am currently making a personal tribute to the brothers of Koen, I start with these Jewish children, who have made films of immense beauty in world cinema.

BLOOD SIMPLE

Blood Simple (1984)
1 the XENUMX film by Cohen
A story of infidelity and entry (in the best way) into the crazy world of Koen ..........

RAISING ARIZONA

Raising Arizona (1987)
After 3 years (1987), Cohen creates a crazy kidnapping story, with Nicolas Cage playing great. Another philosophy from their previous film but with the same crazy look. In my opinion much better this movie than their first. Crazy humor, crazy scenery! I just saw her once again .......

MILLER'S CROSSING

Miller's Crossing (1990)
Another 3 years passed to make their next movie (1990). A gangster film, more in the footsteps of Blood Simple, but much better directed, with interpretations of a time of prohibition.
I personally consider Raising Arizona better in terms of humor and situations.

BARTON FINK

Barton Fink (1991)
1991 releases Barton Fink with a totally different philosophy from all the previous ones. The first small masterpiece of Coen, slightly down the tracks of Woody Allen. Brain thriller, symbolic, existential and whatever you want. It will surely be remembered.
I stop the 1 part of the tribute and I will go on later.

THE HUDSUCKER PROXY

The Hudsucker Proxy (1994)

Next Xenum Movie (1994) Hudsucker Proxy (Mr. Hula Hoop in Greek - that it is) with totally surreal scenes comics, whistling situations and a parody in the big companies and the American dream. Very humorous humor and situations corresponding to Raising Arizona. Very good Tim Robins.

FARGO

Fargo (1996)

1996 co-directs Fargo, one of their most famous films. Blood Simple, and Frances Mc Dormand (who plays in almost all of their films) gives recitals as a policeman in the American Midwest.
Personally, I did not like it very much (in terms of the "glory" it had) but Cohen's style is in its greatness. Count the Yeahs of Americans heard in the movie

THE BIG LEBOWSKI

The Big Lebowski (1998)

Those who have read Tom Robbins and like it will go crazy with this movie. They carry the same madness. Like reading "Even cowboys are melancholy." The epitome of Cohen's style is this nonsense film, which came out 2 years after Fargo (1998). I believe that you should not miss it

O BROTHER, WHERE ART THOU?

O Brother, where art thou? (2000)

We still have runaways here, as in Raising Arizona. George Clooney and his band are trying to make another hilarious and whacking movie in the footsteps of Lebowski but the result is far inferior. But it is certainly worth your attention. 2000 was released.

THE MAN WHO WAS NOT THERE

The man who was not there (2001)

One year after O brother (2001) comes black and white The man who was not there. At a much slower pace (Miller's Crossing reminds us), we are witnessing a story of infidelity - extortion - cubs with a very good performance by Billy Bob Thornton and Scarlett Jahansson in one of his first steps on the big screen. Frances McDormand is always present, of course.
Pretty good noir films but very slow pace for Cohen movie. Also notice that Thornton has incredible luck as a man-wife and puts his hands out of his eyes.

INTOLERABLE CRUELTY

Intolerable Cruelty (2003)

After the atmospheric "The man who was not there", Cohen made a big turn (180 degrees and darts) and entered the VIP Lounges with the Unswerving Charm. Again George Clooney but in a major role, the goddess Catherine Zeta-Jones in the role of greedy husband and a small involvement again for Billy Bob Thornton.
It's not the glamor to the two brothers and it looks very good in this movie that is completely out of their waters. Their main goal, of course, is the absolute satire of these wealthy people, which they certainly do. Hazelnut that in some places has some tricks that go something to do but nothing to do with Cohen.

THE LADYKILLERS

The Ladykillers (2004)

A year after their previous film (Intolerable Cruelty was released in 2003), Cohen returned to the familiar paths. Stormy situations and I believe that in "madness" Ladykillers is quite close to Raising Arizona. Incredible performance by Tom Hanks, while Irma Hall in the role of the traditional South American Negro is really awesome.
Robbery is the movie's eye-opener that really brings Cohen back to the right path.

NO COUNTRY FOR OLD MEN

No Country for Old Men (2007)

For me the top is this. After the "belly" they made with their latest films, in 2007 they gave us this masterpiece Impeccable interpretations by Javier Bardem and Tommy Lee Jones
A head hunt at the far west ...... with terribly unpredictable and endless sighs.
Those who have not seen it rushed

BURN AFTER READING

Burn After Reading (2008)

A year after (2008), Cohen directs George Clooney back to Burn After Reading. Here the cast is richer, with John Malkovich (fairly good interpretation) and exceptional Brad Pitt and Frances McDormand!
But something happens to the Cohen when they direct in the city. I believe that their "headquarters" is the American province. There they paint. I did not like this movie either (similar to the previous one with Clooney, although a little better). Too little to follow the path left by No Country ....

A SERIOUS MAN

A Serious Man (2009)

The last film of the Xenum brothers (2009) referring to the Minnesota Jewish community in the 60 decade. A rather biographical film that carries on the screen the psychoses, obsessions, bravado and many more that happen there and then, always sprinkled with their black humor. But I do not think that anyone else is interested in the Jews, and I do not think it directs and scenarios adds something to what the brothers have built. I would not see it again ...

Υ.Γ. there is their last movie "True Grit" that I downloaded and I will watch it to close the tribute ....

TRUE GRIT

True Grit (2010)

1969's western movie remake with John Wayne is the latest film of the Ken brothers. With a very good photo (western garnet), with stunning Jeff Bridges (once again after Big Lebowski) and Haille Steinfeld. Matt Damon can not say I really liked his role.
Personally I found it very good remake and excellently directed.

Gambit (2012)

Can Cohen not direct the film but the script just arrives to understand that it is their own film. Very laughing, which in a few places reminds a little Monty Pythons. Apart from minimal scenes, like the one with the lion, the rest of the film reaches points of very good comedy. It is definitely worth it!

Inside Llewyn Davis (2013)

On the occasion of the Oscar nominations, I also saw the last film of the voices of Cohen. Far lower than expectations, a biography would say a film, coined with the classic style of Coen. Moderate film for me.
