In 2008 the weekly turnover of the Greek Hippodrome was 7.5 million per week.
Today it is 300,000 and we are talking before today's big crisis, when the owners and OPAP were still doing well!
The drop is 96%, which means we have practically zero turnover today!
How did this thing happen?
Of course in the old days, before 2010, it was considered unthinkable to happen.
If you told them "be careful" then they would make fun of you (we told them not so much because we had predicted the current ones for so long but because of the Markopoulos fiasco we are afraid of something).
But even if you suggested promotions they would tell you "you do not need them - there is money".
But how did it happen?
Everyone likes to attribute it to the financial crisis, so that they are justified in everything (the financial crisis is to blame - what did you expect?).
But let's bet the years of financial crisis fell by only 25%. Here we have 96%.
We will give the "primacy" to another exogenous factor for the fall of horse racing betting.
It's a football bet. From about 2005 the opaque bet and the internet slowly began to "eat" the racetrack, a phenomenon that took the form of an avalanche from 2010 onwards.
It is of course true that no matter how inadequate those who run or ruled the racecourse, if we are in ... 1955 with the racecourse bet being the only instant win bet there would certainly be the big turnovers of the past and there would be no problem.
Football betting is therefore the "enemy" of the racetrack along with of course the given ignorance of the people who do not understand that horse racing betting is better (due to its difficulty).
But what did they do to help the racecourse?
First they over-taxed him!
Today's taxes are guillotine.
Second, they super-rake and taxed (!) The players as well. From 80% payout that was valid for years, they went to 70% or less.
How will we play?
We can not become burglars to play horse racing!
Third, zero promotions.
A completely inadequate and obnoxious horse racing program on television, complete absence from the internet and major television channels, lack of an online betting platform (s.s. world originality).
Honestly, the only thing we could do, if we had the command, would be on the one hand to reduce the predatory rakes and make an online bet.
So we estimate we could (at most) double the bet, that is, go to 600,000.
This may be insufficient - in relation to the "glorious" past - but so far one can, after all the catastrophic events that have preceded.
But we know that what we say will not happen.
The amazing thing is that the "bet" factor is completely ignored by everyone!
