The decision to increase the maximum bet on online slots to 20 euros from the current 2 euros, the reduction of the mandatory waiting time between bets to 2 seconds from 3 seconds and the increase of the maximum winnings to 140.000 euros from 70.000 euros, decided to be recommended by the Gaming Supervision and Control Committee (GSC).
The proposal of the EEEP will be submitted at the beginning of next weeks to the office of the Minister of Finance, in order to start the procedures of the revision of the Gaming Regulations for the organization and conduct of online gambling, through a ministerial decision.
As Capital.gr has written, the above changes are a basic request of the online betting companies and casinos that have recently received the new seven-year licenses.
The limits on bets and time delays came into force last August with the launch of the new online betting regime.
Before taking the above decisions, EEEP instructed EV to prepare a study on the international practice but also on the effects of the limits on the turnovers of the companies and consequently on the revenues of the State.
According to the research, according to sources of EEEP, the limits on bets actually affect a small part of the players that do not exceed 5% of the total, but from which a significant part of the turnover comes.
These players, according to the same sources, are also the first to look for alternatives to unlicensed internet companies in our country or even to illegal gambling.
It is worth noting that the limit of 2 euros per bet applies to slot machines (VLTs) located in OPAP agencies, while the slots in land-based casinos have no limit.
Interventions for OPAP agencies as well
However, the EEEP decided to proceed with a series of facilities and arrangements for the OPAP agencies. In particular, arrangements were decided that solve fixed issues of OPAP agents that have to do mainly with the internal layout of the agencies, the partitions but also the positions of the projection screens in order, for example, to serve the customers who are sitting outdoors.
In the next stage, the EEEP will examine and give opinions on other issues, such as the exemption of the operating fees of the OPAP stores for 2020 and 2021 due to the coronavirus pandemic that kept the agencies closed for many months.
Another intervention for which EEEP is working concerns the introduction in our country of the pan-European lottery "Eurojackpot" through the OPAP agencies.
The EEEP estimates that the addition of this game will strengthen the agencies that see their revenues decrease due to the rise of online gambling, while they have received a strong blow in recent years due to the pandemic.
