For food I suggest you take your car and after you pass a fir tree and a peg and think about the terrible landscapes,

The stone is just perfect, I spent Christmas there and I had a wonderful time. Dora, the owner will make you feel like you are at home and will make you miss the pies, jams and cakes she makes for breakfast. The guest house is located in Pezoula, 10 minutes by car from the lake and 40 minutes from Karditsa. I highly recommend it for winter holidays and plowing in front of the fireplace since each room has its own fireplace.
For food excellent food has Tsardaki which is located on the other side of the lake as well as the fish farm which is on the way to the dam of Plastira lake where you can try trout on coals and crayfish rivers with oil and lemon which are whatever.
The good thing is that the pertouli is in an hour and a half from the hostel and in Elati you can eat and drink your coffee in very neat shops.

So +1 for me in Petrino, which I have booked to go to again in February for a little more plowing.

I will not suggest accommodation but places worth visiting. Depending on the time and the car you have, you can navigate amazing routes. Apart from the route around the lake which is majestic (and even more so in April) and the classic route from Karditsa to the lake, there is also a route west which ends outside Mouzaki passing through the villages of Anthochori and Kriopigi. From there on the left there is the ascent to the mountain mass of Argithea with two routes. The left passes through the village of Pefkofyto and ends at the border of Karditsa / Evritania while the right while the right from the villages Drakotrypa & Oxia (outside them) goes up to the neck of Mount Tympanos (with amazing view of the mountain of Agrafa) and continues to the border of Karditsa / Arta. I would suggest these routes (to the villages of Argithea) only if you have a 4x4 ... Asphalt is everywhere but it is frosty this season.
From Mouzaki you can also go to the Gate of Trikala and from there to Pertouli where after Elati there is an amazing tavern that serves deer or wild boar.
Mileage distances (approximately):
Lake - Mouzaki 25km
Mouzaki - Drakotripa - Oxia - Mount Tymbanos 25 km
Mouzaki - Pefkofyto - Petrilo 25 km
Mouzaki - Gate - Pertouli 40 km
If you want you can pass by the village where I come from Mavrommati Karditsa (2km from Mouzaki) ... If you are a history lover you can visit the cave where Georgios Karaiskakis was born. Ask in the square the cafes that exist they will tell you how to get there!

Good morning, I have been to the lake three times.
The two for three days and the third at a friend's wedding ... he knows and he is also a member.
Around the lake I think that by far the best place to stay is the village of Neochori. I stayed there once in the hostel Agnanti-east (same owner 100 m from each other-preferred the East) and the second in Naiades.
Wherever you eat there is good ... and in the agnanti amazing food.
Prefer something in the hull ... but the kids are amazing too.

Unique view of the lake as it is the most mountainous village on its perimeter.

Very nice part is the fairy. Amazing village in the green. AND IN THE FOREST THAT IT HAS. YOU WILL HAVE FUN IN THE PASSES THAT IT HAS BETWEEN GI ... AND SKIOUROS ..
