THE SUSPENSION of all team sports competitions for 15 days (ie until April 13) the government decided, as announced by the government representative, Theodoros Roussopoulos, immediately after the end of the extraordinary meeting led by the prime minister at Megaros Maximos.
In addition, the formation of an inter-ministerial committee with the participation of the ministers of Justice, Public Order, State and the Deputy Minister of Sports on the issue of violence in the stadiums was announced, which will check compliance with the institutional framework and contribute to more complete information of the citizens.
Finally, on April 3, there will be a meeting of the representatives of the professional sports bodies with the Deputy Minister of Sports George Orfanos, who will request the strict observance of the measures decided by the State.
Mr. Roussopoulos emphasized that there is no such thing as impersonal responsibility, "responsibility is personified" and emphasized that from the new season cameras will be installed in all stadiums and electronic tickets will be issued to identify persons.
At the same time, based on the new law passed by the government, the prison sentence for incidents in the stadiums cannot be converted into a fine. "Straight to prison for the offenders," the government representative pointed out.
"Violence in the stadiums concerns the whole of society and the competent sports bodies must act decisively, with the help of the State on their side to eliminate the sad phenomenon", concluded Mr. Roussopoulos.
In the Maximos Palace meeting held on the occasion of yesterday's bloody incidents in Paiana with the death of a 25-year-old fan, the ministers of Justice Anastasis Papaligouras, Public Order Byron Polydoras and the Deputy Minister of Sports Giorgos Orfanos participated.
