Let's start early this year ... Some odds are circulating timidly. Purely cinematic, "The Irishman" will hardly win the grand prize. They also look locked in the first male (rightfully) for the Joker Phoenix, but also the second female for Laura Dern (I have not seen the movie). What remains to be seen is how the academy will handle Netflix this year as well.
If we assume that they will try to snub the medium again this year and give the big prize to a studio film, 1917 (which is discussed as a unique cinematic achievement and - logically - will go with the Photography Oscar) has a very good chance of verifying the its high performance (5.00-7.00). Marriage Story is also Netflix, while the Joker is unsuitable for minors, but also a "comic book", so it is a little behind both Scorsese's epic and Sam Mendes's epic.
Phoenix, as we said, has no chance of losing it. In the top five I guess Drewer, De Niro will definitely be in it. From then on, Hopkins will likely be honored with a nomination with Edward Norton.
Of the Irish, the most likely to be a prize are Joe Pace (beats Pacino comfortably) for a B male and Zalian for a scripted script (though I hope and support in this category that the beloved Edward Norton wins the race to win the race) scandalously it doesn't have, even if it's not for acting).
Finally (for the time being), if Hildur Gundnadutir for Joker (also made music for Chernobyl this year) doesn't get Original Music, it would be a big surprise ...
