Anatolia Turkey Rally 2003
Profile
This year's Turkey Rally is participating in the World Rally Championship (WRC) program for the first time. 1999 first appeared and entered the European rally championship program with the prospect of someday joining the world championship. It is the first time the championship rally has taken place in the Middle East. From the FIA's point of view, the effort to increase the WRC's audience by introducing both this rally and the German that started the program last year is evident.
The paths are earthen and resemble those of our own Acropolis and that of Cyprus, ie stones, waterfalls, etc. However, there are several routes in the Taurus Mountains and snow, ice and mud are likely due to the season.
Given what has happened in Turkey's previous races, it seems to be a tough race with the stamina to play an important role in the outcome of the race. Also, as the rally comes out this year there is little experience of drivers on the route. Similarly the technical teams have no experience in being the best car setup to cope with the racing conditions.
The rally consists of 3 days (legs) and 18 special stages. The smallest special has a length of 1.55 km (SS 1 Superspecial) while the largest 32.20 km (SS 5 & 17 Perge). It covers a total of 1234 km, 383 on special and 851 on roads to and from the special and checkpoints.
The weather forecast of the rally rally reports good weather with the possibility of rain only on Sunday. Of course conditions vary from Antalya to the Mediterranean climate to the mountainous climate of Kemer where most of the racing kilometers are. Specialists at the moment have little snow or ice but a cold night like expected today (-5) can change the conditions.
Prehistory
There is no.
2002 took part in the race to get to know some WRC drivers, namely Pykalisto (Peugeot) and Loeb (Citroen).
Tires: Subaru uses Pirelli's which are slightly favored on special riders. Others use Michelin which is favored in mild and low temperatures and in mud, snow, ice.
Latest News
Mitsubishi does not participate in the race.
Engineer Transfers for Burns and Makinen. They took their acquaintances as engineers of old. Especially for Makinen's mechanic to note that he was the one who worked with him on Mitsubishi when Makinen swept victories and championships.
Solberg brought the best times to the test today.
Suggestions
The rally is new and the prognosis is difficult.
I am thinking of adopting the logic that says that Peugeot and Citroen "break" in hard rallies, the rally will be a criterion of credibility of the two French teams. So we go with Ford (with Martin) and Subaru (with Makinen, Solberg). Especially for Martin there is a strong anticipation from the WRC friends for his first victory in a race.
We had budgeted 20 units for the race, suggesting that we reduce them a little.
Martin 6 units at 10.00 (WillHill, we didn't get the 12.00 that Ladbrokes had)
Solberg 5 units at 11.00 (miscellaneous)
Makinen 4 units at 13.00 (miscellaneous)
Good Luck!
