Blue Flag 425 shores

Four hundred and twenty-five beaches and eight marinas won this year the quality award "Blue Flags", as announced by the Hellenic Society for the Protection of Nature.

With 425 award-winning beaches, Greece ranks 2nd among 39 countries. In total, the International Commission awarded 2.699 beaches and 639 marinas. Greece in 2008 was awarded for 430 coasts and 8 marinas.

The criteria for the award are a total of 29 and refer to cleanliness, organization, information, safety of bathers and visitors, as well as the protection of the coastal environment and the coastal area.

Personally, flags mean nothing to me. At least from the parts of me that I know of Imagine Skopelos - Alonissos had several years when they didn't even send beaches for flags. Also if I show you what dirty beaches get flags here in Magnesia (not all) you will go crazy

I imagine you know about Fakistra. If not, then as you go down from Tsagarada to Mylopotamos, there is (about halfway) an intersection to the left for Fakistra. You go to a point by car, all the way. There is a parking area (small vevia) where you leave the car and then a footpath for about ten minutes.
For Limniona: as you go from Tsagarada to Labinou, as soon as you pass Xourichti there is an intersection on the left for Limniona. At first it's asphalt but then a dirt road starts and it's enough. At some point you reach the bed of the stream, but as soon as you see cars, it's a good idea to leave the car a little higher because you will hardly find parking near the beach. Another solution is to go to Labinou (it's easy to get there by car) and from there you can reach Labinou by footpath in about half an hour. Of course, if you like it, you can also stay in Labinou.

Beyond the placard now they are truly enchanting beaches. Especially in Elafonisi we are talking about crystal clear waters with very nice shells, at Falasarna again crystal clear waters but very cold. I won't say anything about the other part, just take a walk and you will understand what paradise on earth means.

The photo is a bit old, it's crystal clear but not like it used to be. Now this magical place is also a bit spoiled.

I also went last year (end of August 2008) it was very nice but not like the photo. I would happily go again though.

As for the Ball...if you go barefoot and see the goddess from above, it's incredible. I also liked it, of course... it's something you only find in exotic places... I didn't think it existed in our Greece
