I may confuse them in my mind because I do not watch much and let the categories and athletes change, but about 6 months ago I read an article that said about a category that only one athlete had a black belt. Not that I am impressed by the fact that many are quite young. Also, there is a lot of work behind the scenes regardless of the exams and the belt. For example, you may be technically at a brown level and because you are 2 years in purple they do not give you coffee because you are "new" to your belt.
The junta specially, of whom I have noticed that they started from here, mainly helps you to go downhill, so you can take the takedown to get a seat etc. In the modern bjj there are also judo technicians in throws, takedowns, etc.
