For the 3rd matchday of the 1st group of the Champions League, Liverpool welcomes Rangers to Anfield. The group is completed by Ajax and Napoli, the first two advance to the last 16 of the competition while the third continues in the Europa League.
Liverpool made a poor start to the group as they were crushed 4-1 at Napoli but beat Ajax 2-2 at home in matchday 1 and will look to win against Rangers tonight to keep them in an open group on course for qualification.
However, it is even more problematic in the championship as its start is very bad and it is in danger of being left out of the title very early on. On Saturday they suffered another cold, they were held to a 3-3 draw at home against Brighton and after 7 matches with a record of 2 wins, 4 draws and 1 loss they are in 9th place with 10 points.
With two heavy defeats, Rangers returned to the Champions League, in the group premiere they were defeated in Amsterdam by Ajax 4-0, while in the 2nd matchday they were defeated at home by Napoli 3-0. Now it has essentially lost all hope of qualifying for the next phase, while it seems difficult even to claim the 3rd place that leads to the Europa League.
In the Scottish league on Saturday, they easily beat Hearts in Edinburgh 4-0 and after 8 games with a record of 6 wins, 1 draw and 1 loss, they are in 2nd place with 19 points and minus 2 from the first Celtic.
Liverpool wants tonight only the victory that will keep them on track for qualification while giving them peace and psychology after the bad results of the last few days. Rangers, for its part, is the weakest team in the group, however, it goes into the match without stress and whatever happens. Klopp's team is the favorite, but with the defensive weaknesses it shows by conceding goals from everyone and in any way it seems difficult to keep a clean sheet tonight.
Tip: Liverpool – Rangers 1 & GG with odds of 2.52
