Premier League 2022-23 Preview: The title contenders, the underdogs and the relegation battle

Stoiximan's odds

The Premier League premieres on Friday, August 5, with Crystal Palace's game against Arsenal, and of course the unshakable favorite is the Manchester City-Liverpool duo, which are also the two first favorites to win the Champions League. But the Premier League remains the most exciting and popular league in the world and nothing can be taken for granted. And especially this year with the unprecedented format of the World Cup, surprises are expected more than ever...

The two firm favourites

You don't need to be an astrologer or a specialized analyst to decide that Manchester City and Liverpool they are a class above any other Premier League team and that they are likely to be consumed in a relentless battle for the scepter of the Premier League, but also the Champions League.

Η Manchester City will have to deal with the departures of Sterling, Jesus, Fernandinho and Zitchenko, but the extremely thoughtful additions of Haaland, Alvarez and Kevin Phillips probably more than compensate for the losses.

The same applies to Liverpool with Darwin Nunez looking like a worthy replacement for Sadio Mane. But the most important factor of optimism in both camps is none other than their presence Klopp and Guardiola, two fantastic coaches who know how to maximize the potential of their rich roster.

So City and Liverpool are favourites, with Stoiximan giving 1,57 and 3,50 respectively.

The underdogs for the title

There are not a few who consider her a key outsider for the title Tottenham. Antonio Conte has the "know how" of the championship with 6 championships under his belt, while he was also given all the favors during the transfer window with the addition of a number of players of known value. It is not unlikely that they will enter a wedge in the battle for the title - after all since Conte's appointment in November, they are the team with the most points other than Liverpool and City - but at the same time we must not forget that we are talking about... Tottenham.

However, the new arrivals in North London are indeed expected to make a big difference. Especially Richarlison as he will give Harry Kane the help he has been asking for years and greater flexibility of movement that will probably give him the opportunity to be the top scorer again, a possibility that pays the excellent

End of the Abramovich era for the Chelsea, but the situation looks quite rosy for the "blues". The new owners have moved quickly and the quality additions of Raheem Sterling and Kalidou Koulibaly have partially offset the losses of Rudiger and Christensen. Thomas Tuchel remains a charismatic manager with a lot of support in the dressing room and the only question is whether Chelsea will be able to reassemble defensively to keep close to Manchester City and Liverpool in the long run...

The lack of depth on the bench and experience in crucial games, cost the 4η place in Arsenal last year and Mikel Arteta made sure to "correct" the situation with much-lauded transfers. The question is whether Arteta will find the formula to maximize the potential contribution of players such as Gabriel Jesus and Zinchenko from Manchester City, but also other great additions such as Saliba from Marseille and Vieira from Porto.

The possible positive surprises

Η Aston Villa with Steven Gerrard's prestige and connections on the bench, they legitimately aspire to establish themselves as this season's rising power. The naivety that cost his team last season has intrigued Gerrard who, with the support of its billionaire owners, strengthened the backbone of the team with players of known value. Most importantly, the additions of Coutinho (on a permanent basis), Diego Carlos and Boubacar Kamara were made at the start of the transfer window. Gerrard's arrival at Villa Park last November has given new impetus to Aston Villa, who remain a heavy outfit and now possess the quality and mentality needed to push for the upper echelons of the standings.

Η Nottingham Forest it may have been absent from the Premier League since… last century (1999) but it remains a huge shirt with tremendous potential. Something of a 'sleeping giant' of English football – let's not forget the back-to-back Champions Cup wins in 1979 and 1980. Steve Cooper is an inspiring manager with excellent credentials of dominant football from last year, made some very notable signings and the great their stadium on the banks of the River Trent is expected to be well received by their ever-loyal fans.

Candidates for relegation

Η Brighton comes off the back of by far the best season in its history in the Premier League (9η position), but it will be extremely difficult to repeat it. Because as charismatic a manager as Graham Potter is, he has lost very important key players who are extremely difficult to replace for a club of the Seagulls' stature. And when a season goes wrong, it can always go wrong for good…

The "syndrome of 2th season" is most likely to beat the "naive" at her game Bradford which may have stormed into the Premier League last year, but then deflated abruptly and without Eriksen's valuable contribution and displacement of personality at the end, would hardly have avoided relegation. Thomas Frank, however, remains one of the most charismatic managers of the Premier League and it is likely that the hares he will pull out of his hat this year will prove to be enough for salvation.

Η Bournemouth betting on the stability and rising coaching star of Scott Parker without indulging in a transfer rush. Scott Parker is fresh from the corresponding promotion experience with Fulham, but failed to keep it in the Premier League and it remains to be seen whether his obsession with last year's roster will prove disastrous or visionary.
